I followed Angela's tutorial and it definitely works - send me an email with the area you're confused about and I'll try to help you out or meet you at uni some time.

Essentially:

Create your blog and three test posts (testfor101, testfor111, test for171).

Add three test labels to each post (eg. class label: "dsdn 101", label so we can find a project: "dsdn101_p1", label so we can find your hand-in work: "hand-in")

Click DESIGN in the upper toolbar.

The page elements window appears. Under the Header box there should be a box with "ADD A GADGET" in it. Click this.

Scroll down in the pop up window till you find labels.

Click Selected Labels and Select your Class Labels only (NB: scroll down and click DONE or this won't work)

Click Save. Click Save again. View your blog and check that your new gadget/widget/links bar sorts your posts into their class categories.

GOLD STAR: Go mad like I have and create links for individual projects and individual hand-ins
